Adrian Bohorquez and Sam Armstrong kept Frisco searching for an answer through eight scoreless innings, giving Wichita’s early offense more than enough room to stand. By the time the RoughRiders finally broke through, the Wind Surge had long since taken control.
Bohorquez worked five shutout innings, Armstrong covered the next three, and Wichita beat Frisco 5-1 at Equity Bank Park.
The Wind Surge scored twice in each of the first two innings, building a four-run lead before Frisco managed its first hit. Bohorquez earned the win with four strikeouts and one walk, while Armstrong struck out two without issuing a walk.
Kyle DeBarge provided the first and decisive swing. Marek Houston and Khadim Diaw opened the bottom of the first with walks against Aidan Curry. After an infield popout, a groundout advanced both runners, and DeBarge lined a two-out single into left field to bring them home.
That cushion grew quickly against Zach Bryant in the second. Poncho Ruiz walked, Graham Brown floated a single into center and Quinn McDaniel followed with a ground-ball single to right, loading the bases with nobody out. Houston drove a sharp single into left to score Ruiz, and Diaw’s sacrifice fly brought Brown home for a 4-0 lead.
It was the kind of start that allowed Bohorquez to pitch from ahead, though he hardly needed the margin. He retired the first eight RoughRiders before walking Luke Hanson with two outs in the third. Dylan Dreiling’s flyout ended that inning, and Arturo Disla’s ground-ball single in the fourth became Frisco’s only hit against the Wichita starter.
Bohorquez worked around that single and closed his outing by retiring the side in order in the fifth. Over his five innings, Frisco advanced no runner beyond first base.
Wichita’s lineup made the lead 5-0 in the bottom of the fifth. DeBarge walked, Jaime Ferrer singled and Ruiz’s flyout advanced both runners. Brown then sent a sharp grounder toward shortstop Luke Hanson, with the ball deflecting off pitcher D.J. McCarty as DeBarge scored.
Brown finished 2-for-3 with a walk, an RBI and a run. DeBarge went 1-for-2, walked twice and drove in two, while McDaniel reached in each of his four plate appearances with two singles and two walks. Houston supplied an RBI and scored once.
Armstrong preserved the shutout despite an extra-base hit in each of his first two innings. Gleider Figuereo doubled with two outs in the sixth before Disla popped out. Malcolm Moore doubled with one out in the seventh, but Armstrong answered by retiring Marcus Lee Sang and striking out Paxton Kling. He followed with three straight outs in the eighth, handing a five-run lead to Luis Quiñones.
Disla spoiled the shutout with one out in the ninth, lining his 18th home run over the left-field wall. Quiñones struck out the batters immediately before and after the homer, then induced Moore’s game-ending popout.
Frisco finished with four hits, two of them from Disla. Wichita collected eight and played error-free defense, but the game belonged to the two pitchers who made an early lead feel much larger: Bohorquez and Armstrong combined to hold the RoughRiders scoreless through eight, reducing the late homer to little more than a footnote.
