Wichita had erased Frisco’s first lead before Riley Quick recorded his fourth out Friday night. By the time he found the third out of the third inning, the game had become a rout.
Rafe Perich’s grand slam to right-center delivered the crushing blow in a six-run inning, sending the Wind Surge toward a 14-2 loss at Equity Bank Park. Frisco scored in seven of nine innings, piling up 15 hits while Wichita managed three and committed three errors.
Khadim Diaw had supplied the early promise. After Dylan Dreiling singled and scored on Perich’s ground-ball single in the top of the first, Diaw drove his fourth home run to left-center in the bottom half, pulling Wichita even at 1-1.
That answer did not hold through the third.
Luke Hanson opened the inning by reaching on shortstop Marek Houston’s throwing error. Sebastian Walcott and Dreiling followed with singles, the second of which brought Hanson home and restored Frisco’s lead. Quick walked Arturo Disla to load the bases for Perich, who cleared them with his 16th home run.
The sequence left Wichita down 6-1 before the inning’s first out. Marcus Lee Sang added a single, advanced on a sacrifice bunt and scored on Max Wagner’s double to left, completing the six-run surge.
Perich finished 3-for-5 with the grand slam and a walk. Dreiling went 3-for-6, drove in a run and scored three times.
Quick remained in the game through the fourth, when Frisco added another run. Walcott and Disla singled, Perich walked, and Lee Sang’s forceout brought Walcott home. Quick took the loss after allowing six earned runs over four innings, striking out two and walking two.
The deficit kept expanding after his departure. Jaylen Nowlin held Frisco without an earned run in the fifth and struck out three, but the RoughRiders scored three times against Chris Vallimont in the sixth. Ian Moller drew a bases-loaded walk before Hanson lined a two-run single to center, stretching the margin to 12-1.
Disla made it 13-1 in the seventh with his 17th home run, a line drive to right-center. He finished 2-for-5 with a walk.
Wichita’s only scoring response after Diaw’s homer came in the bottom of that inning. Andrew Cossetti and Kyle DeBarge walked with two outs, and Jaime Ferrer lifted a double that fell near second baseman Wagner, scoring Cossetti. Ferrer’s 14th double made him 1-for-4 with an RBI.
There was little else for the Wind Surge offense. Houston supplied Wichita’s remaining hit with an eighth-inning single, but Diaw followed by grounding into a double play. Frisco relievers Kai Wynyard and Brock Porter covered the final 6 1/3 innings, with Porter working the last four for the save.
The RoughRiders added their final run in the ninth after Dreiling and Perich singled. Houston’s fielding error on Lee Sang’s grounder allowed Dreiling to score, Wichita’s third error putting the last mark on a night that had started slipping away two hours earlier.
Diaw’s first-inning swing briefly restored the balance. Frisco’s third inning wiped it out, and the Wind Surge never found another way back.
