Ty Langenberg kept finding the next out Thursday night, whether Frisco put a runner aboard with one out, opened an inning with an extra-base hit or finally pushed the tying run within 90 feet of home.
His six innings of control gave Wichita the foundation for a 3-1 win at Equity Bank Park. Langenberg allowed one earned run, struck out four and did not issue a walk, improving to 2-6 while holding the RoughRiders quiet long enough for the Wind Surge to manufacture an early lead and protect it.
Wichita gave him a run in the first without a hit. Kyle DeBarge was hit by a pitch, advanced to third on Khadim Diaw’s fly ball and scored when Brandon Winokur lifted a sacrifice fly to left.
That modest advantage held because Langenberg never let Frisco string together a rally. Rafe Perich’s first-inning single disappeared in a double play, and Marcus Lee Sang’s leadoff double in the third never moved beyond second. A two-out single in the fourth and a leadoff single in the fifth met the same end: Langenberg finished the inning without damage.
Quinn McDaniel gave him more room in the third. McDaniel drove Cole Stasio’s offering high toward left-center, the ball carrying beyond the wall to double Wichita’s lead. It was the biggest swing in McDaniel’s 2-for-3 night, which included a home run and an RBI.
Stasio otherwise made Wichita work. The Frisco right-hander struck out six without a walk over five innings, allowing two earned runs, but the Wind Surge’s early pressure and McDaniel’s drive left him with the loss.
Frisco’s best chance came in Langenberg’s final inning. Sebastian Walcott was hit by a pitch, and Perich’s single put two aboard before Langenberg struck out Gleider Figuereo. Yeison Morrobel followed with a ground ball up the middle that deflected into center field for a double. Walcott scored, Perich reached third and Wichita’s lead had narrowed to 2-1 with one out.
The tying run never made it home.
Malcolm Moore sent a ball back toward Langenberg, who threw to Diaw to cut down Perich at the plate. Langenberg then retired Paxton Kling on a fly ball to center, preserving the lead and closing his night with the game still in Wichita’s hands.
The Wind Surge answered immediately. Diaw opened the bottom of the sixth by lining a Bryan Magdaleno pitch down the right-field line and off the wall for a double. Winokur followed with a ground-ball single through the middle, bringing Diaw home and restoring the two-run cushion.
Winokur drove in two of Wichita’s three runs and also stole a base. Diaw went 1-for-3 with the double, a hit-by-pitch and a run scored, making the middle of the order count on a night when Wichita finished with five hits.
From there, the bullpen turned Langenberg’s work into a win. Spencer Bengard handled two scoreless innings, striking out three and earning his sixth hold. Kyle Bischoff worked around a ninth-inning walk for a scoreless frame and his sixth save, getting Lee Sang on a ground ball to finish it.
Wichita committed no errors behind its pitchers and held Frisco to one run on six hits. The Wind Surge scored once in the first, once in the third and once in the sixth—a measured offensive night that was enough because Langenberg never allowed the game to escape him.
