The Missions kept finding the beginnings of rallies Sunday at Nelson Wolff Stadium. Albert Fabian ripped a double into center field. Braedon Karpathios reached three times and produced another extra-base hit. San Antonio put two aboard in the seventh.
None of those chances became the inning the Missions needed.
San Antonio scored only on Romeo Sanabria’s sixth-inning sacrifice fly and closed its 2026 home schedule with a 5-1 loss to the Midland RockHounds. The Missions finished with six hits but stranded both of their doubles and lost two runners on caught stealings.
Fabian generated the first real opening in the second, jumping on Jackson Finley’s first pitch and sending a sharp liner toward the gap. Pedro Pineda raced over to cut it off, but Fabian hustled into second ahead of the throw for his 19th double of the season. Finley left him there with a flyout, a strikeout and a groundout.
Karpathios singled with two outs in the third, but another flyout ended that threat. Finley held San Antonio scoreless through four innings, allowing two hits while striking out three and walking one.
By then, Midland had given itself room.
Jamie Hitt allowed a run in the first after Clark Elliott walked and Brennan Milone hit a ground-rule double into left-center. Nate Nankil’s sacrifice fly brought Elliott home.
The larger blow came two innings later. CJ Rodriguez opened the third with a ground-ball single, and Elliott drove Hitt’s first pitch high toward right field. Alex McCoy retreated to the warning track, reached at the wall and watched the ball carry just beyond him for Elliott’s eighth homer, a two-run shot that made it 3-0.
Hitt prevented that inning from growing despite two more Midland hits, and he worked through five innings with the Missions still within reach. The left-hander allowed three earned runs, struck out six and walked four.
San Antonio finally broke through against Zane Taylor in the sixth. Oswaldo Linares drew a leadoff walk and advanced to third on Karpathios’ fly ball to right. After McCoy walked, Sanabria lifted a fly to center deep enough for Linares to score without a throw.
The inning ended almost immediately afterward when McCoy was caught stealing second. It was San Antonio’s second caught stealing of the game; Karpathios had been thrown out to end the first.
The Missions’ deficit had narrowed to 3-1, but Midland answered in the seventh against Harry Gustin. Jared Sprague-Lott singled with two outs before Milone went the other way on an 0-2 curveball. McCoy sprinted toward the right-center-field wall, but the drive cleared it for Milone’s ninth home run and restored a four-run margin.
Milone finished 3-for-5 with a homer and a double. Elliott added the earlier two-run homer and drew two walks, accounting for much of the damage against a San Antonio pitching staff that struck out 14.
The Missions had one more substantial chance in the bottom of the seventh. Fabian beat out a grounder to first, and Ryan Jackson singled him to second after a flyout. A.J. Causey entered and struck out Justin DeCriscio and Luis Verdugo to strand both runners.
Karpathios offered one last jolt in the eighth, drilling a ball past Nankil in right and sliding safely into second with his 22nd double. He went 2-for-3 with a walk, but consecutive outs left him there.
Fabian also had two hits, and Jack Costello singled in the ninth before San Antonio’s final home inning ended with another runner stranded. Johan Moreno and Francis Peña each supplied a scoreless relief inning with two strikeouts, but the Missions’ offense never found the hit that could turn scattered opportunities into a comeback.
