The RoughRiders did not need one enormous inning Wednesday night at Arvest Ballpark. They made the game feel one-sided by stacking pressure almost everywhere: a run in the first, two more in the third, a four-run fourth, another shot in the fifth and, when Northwest Arkansas finally answered, three more in the ninth to close out an 11-2 win.
For a Frisco lineup coming off a rough stretch, it was the kind of response that does not leave much room for interpretation. The RoughRiders finished with 11 runs, 16 hits and no errors, turning Felix Arronde’s night into a slow climb that kept getting steeper.
They grabbed the lead before the Naturals ever came to bat. Sebastian Walcott was hit by a pitch, moved to second on Dylan Dreiling’s flyout and to third on Arturo Disla’s single. Rafe Perich walked to load the bases, and Yeison Morrobel followed with another walk, sending Walcott home with the first run.
That was the beginning of Walcott’s table-setting night. He went 3-for-5, was hit by a pitch and scored twice, part of a top-to-bottom Frisco offense that rarely let Northwest Arkansas breathe. Dreiling added two hits and scored a run. Morrobel reached four times, going 2-for-3 with a double and two walks. Malcolm Moore went 2-for-4 with a double, a walk and an RBI.
Frisco widened the lead in the third without needing a ball to leave the infield. Perich, Morrobel and Moore opened the inning by reaching base, and Corey Joyce’s groundout brought Perich home. Luke Hanson followed with a soft groundout to first, enough for Morrobel to score and make it 3-0. Hanson’s productive out also gave him his first Double-A RBI.
The real separation came an inning later. Walcott and Dreiling singled to start the fourth, and Disla’s groundout brought Walcott in. Then Perich supplied the swing that turned a firm lead into a rout. He lifted a fly ball to deep center, sending Luke Pelzer back to the wall before it cleared for Perich’s 15th homer with Frisco. Dreiling scored ahead of him, and the RoughRiders led 6-0.
Arronde stayed in long enough for one more batter, walking Morrobel, before Brandon Johnson entered from the bullpen. Moore greeted him immediately with a sharp liner into the left-center gap that rolled to the wall, easily scoring Morrobel for a 7-0 lead. Arronde took the loss after allowing seven earned runs in 3.1 innings.
Perich finished 2-for-4 with the homer, a walk and a strikeout. Marcus Lee Sang added the other loud swing, driving his 14th homer of the season to left center in the fifth. Pelzer tracked it toward the warning track, but the ball carried out, pushing Frisco’s lead to 8-0. Lee Sang went 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs.
The run support allowed D.J. McCarty to keep pitching through traffic. He walked two batters in the first, but escaped on a sharp lineout, an infield-fly popout and another popout. He allowed baserunners in each of his four innings, including a double and two walks in the fourth, yet never let Northwest Arkansas turn any of it into a run. McCarty finished with four scoreless innings, two strikeouts and four walks.
Zach Bryant covered the next three innings and earned the win, improving to 3-3 after allowing two runs. Northwest Arkansas got both in the seventh, when Spencer Nivens singled, Daniel Vazquez doubled and Colton Becker’s groundout brought in the Naturals’ first run. Connor Scott followed with an RBI double to right to make it 8-2.
Frisco answered late instead of letting the margin keep shrinking. In the ninth, Corey Joyce walked and Hanson singled before Lee Sang lined a ball the other way down the left-field line, scoring Joyce. Walcott followed with a chopper to third that turned into another run when the throw skipped away, bringing Hanson home and putting Frisco in double digits. Dreiling’s double-play grounder scored Lee Sang for the final run.
Jonathan Brand handled the last two innings with two strikeouts, working around a leadoff walk in the ninth to finish it. Northwest Arkansas ended with two runs, eight hits and two errors. Frisco left with the fuller line and the cleaner night: power from Perich and Lee Sang, traffic from nearly everyone else, and enough pitching to make an early lead stand up all the way through.
